Rascal cuts waste in a major supermarket chain

July 11, 2005

Open Projects have just released Rascal Version 1.3.0.7

The system is now running in 48 major supermarkets in and around London.

The Rascal system consists of a central web site and application software deployed on PDAs. The system is being used by Rascal Solutions Ltd. to monitor sales and returns of magazines in a major supermarket chain.

The system is capable of electronically controlling and verifying magazine delivery and returns processes. The website enables retailers to track the distribution and return of magazines, speedily highlighting errors.

Rascal Features:

  • All major title listings handled for both current and recently off sale issues
  • Specialist merchandising staff uses Rascal to validate individual store ranges, using current barcode and issue dates. Magazines are then scanned with a handheld PDA
  • Stores can utilise the system to establish and maintain the range of titles they are willing to sell, including promotional titles. Access to Rascal by wholesalers and publishers can ensure range compliance throughout the industry
  • For details of all returns collected, processed, validated and credited by the wholesaler the web site accepts an electronic credit note. This credit note is compared with the original returned quantities, and any discrepancies highlighted
